Our client are a global transportation company with a presence in over 10 countries and have more than 15,000 employees. They are looking for a Health & Safety Director to join their team in the UAE office.
Reporting directly into the Managing Director you will be responsible for:
- Plan, develop and manage the activities of the HSQE Department to meet all legal, certification, performance, stakeholder and other relevant requirements
- Exercise effective Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental Assurance leadership
- Review and interpret current and future HSQE demands in connection with business requirements and pending legislation
- Develop the integrated Management Systems with the support of the other directorates in order to obtain certification for ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OSHAS 18001, ISO 5500, ISO 11001
- Ensure that sufficient, qualified HSQE staff are provided and managed in accordance with the staffing plan, recruitment and training plan
- Implement a program of internal and external audit and inspection of the activities of all Directorates to determine the effectiveness of, and compliance with, the organisation’s Performance Management Plan
Core Competencies
- Experience of reviewing Health and Safety compliance to a recognised safety standard e.g. OHSAS 18001
- Proven knowledge and experience in implementing an operational risk management framework
- Highly developed knowledge of railway systems, particularly for Metro operations
- Extensive knowledge of HSQE Management Systems, systems integrations and certification
- Extensive knowledge of railway safety regulations, regulatory frameworks and interface management
- Ability to politically incisive in communicating effectively with government agencies, board members, contractors and staff
- Highly motivated and flexibility to work in a time-sensitive environment to respond quickly and effectively to unanticipated high workloads, events and emergencies
- Ability to think laterally and analyse and assess a range of information
- Thorough understanding of all aspects of safety issues related to railway operations and maintenance
Key Requirements
- Health & Safety qualification at NEBOSH Diploma (UK) equivalent or degree level
- Full membership of recognised professional body (e.g. CMIOSH)
- Minimum of 7+ years of general HSQE management experience
- ISO9001 Lead Auditor
- 5 years of specific HSQE management experience within the rail industry
- Good understanding of ISO9001, ISO14001 and OSHAS18001
