Overview:

In order to ensure that Track Assets are maintained in compliance with organisation standards, the role of Ultrasonic Test Unit (UTU) specialist provides the analysed inspection data to allow the TMM to make informed decisions when prioritising maintenance activities. The role is also fundamental in satisfying the inspection criteria of several organisation standards

Key Accountabilities:

  • Carry out work safely and in accordance with the safe systems of work procedures, method statements, plans and other instructions
  • Manage processes and systems for the calibration and certification of tools and equipment
  • Manage and check the quality of work delivered and confirm assets are compliant to standards
  • Provide technical support and guidance
  • Manage the preparation of work and resource specifications, method statements and plans
  • Manage and supervise the delivery and output of UTU operations
  • Manage information to update systems, databases and records
  • Undertake UTU inspections, tests, investigations and analysis of technical data
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures
  • Update and provide information to accurately update systems, databases and records as required
  • Undertake and supervise UTU tasks

Qualifications:

  • Leadership and management
  • Ultrasonic trained to level 2 standard (would be desirable )
  • Ideally hold HNC / ONC (or equivalent) in a relevant subject
  • Ability to undertake engineering analysis and related calculation
  • IT Literate (Word, Excel, Viso,etc)

Experience:

  • Knowledge and experience of all ultrasonic procedures U 1,2,3,5,7,8,14,15,16
  • Knowledge and experience of permanent way inspections for working towards compliance
  • Knowledge and experience of analysing data provided from UTU testing run
  • Knowledge and experience of A scan working B scan

Competencies:

  • Hold and retain the competencies relevant to this post and required by business need
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, OEM instructions and handbooks
  • Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, with fluency in both spoken and written English language as an essential
  • Able to coach, influence and develop others
