At BWP, we believe in celebrating the hard work and dedication of our team members. Matt has been with BWP for two years, and in that time, he has made a significant impact on our Real Estate desk. With a promotion to Senior Associate Partner at the start of the year and being voted MVP for 2024, his success speaks for itself. We sat down with Matt to discuss his journey, challenges, and insights into the Middle East real estate market.
Congratulations on winning MVP for 2024! What does this recognition mean to you?
Matt: Everyone worked very hard last year to achieve what we did, so to be voted MVP for the year is a great feeling.
Tell us about your passion for real estate and a bit about your background.
Matt: I have always had deep-rooted connections to the real estate sector, with my father’s involvement in the industry sparking my early interest. At 18, I pursued a four-year RICS-accredited real estate degree in Newcastle while balancing a part-time job and a placement year at a local surveying firm. This hands-on experience exposed me to various departments and services, broadening my understanding of the sector. As I was completing my degree, I was approached for an opportunity in Dubai with a real estate brokerage, which ultimately led me to BWP and a career in real estate recruitment.
Does your background in real estate help when recruiting in the sector?
Matt: Absolutely. I think having a deep-rooted understanding of the sector is fundamental for the service we provide to our clients and for the top talent we represent.
What are the biggest challenges you have faced in recruitment and building your desk?
Matt: Recruitment has its challenges, and the Middle East market is full of opportunity. But with that comes competition. Working in committed partnerships is key, and I believe that comes from building trust and credibility..
What successes during your time at BWP are you most proud of?
Matt: There are many successes to be proud of, but MVP probably tops it.
How would you describe the culture at BWP, and how has it shaped your growth?
Matt: I think working at a boutique gives you much more exposure and flexibility to grow than you might get in a bigger corporation. That’s helped me get to where I am now during my tenure at BWP.
How do you see the Middle East real estate market evolving? What are the key trends?
Matt: The outlook is highly positive. The Middle East is widely recognised as a booming real estate market with abundant opportunities. Saudi Arabia, in particular, stands out as a key player in real estate development over the next decade, with significant growth and investment shaping the sector’s future as the Kingdom works towards its 2030 vision and beyond. Events like the FIFA World Cup and the World Expo are catalysts for exciting masterplan developments including lots of luxury tourism destinations.
Matt’s journey at BWP is a reflection of his passion for real estate, deep industry knowledge, and commitment to delivering results. As he continues to grow within the company, we’re excited to see how he shapes the future of real estate recruitment in the Middle East. Congratulations, Matt, on an incredible two years. Here’s to many more!
